Seeking redemption after tight round two losses, both the Huawei Dragons and Tiger Brokers Tigers were eyeing a much-needed victory to propel them back into Championship contention.
Both teams sought a confidence boost in the first Mixed Doubles, however the young Tigers combination of Dacmen Vong & Janice Jiang held their nerve to draw first blood and with it the all-important tide of momentum.
The early win proved a catalyst for what came next as first Edward Lau and then Sally Fu snatched wins from the jaws of their more fancied Dragons opponents. A clever time-out by Tigers Coach Henry Tam swung momentum to Fu as she rallied from 5-1 down in the third to quickly seize the lead and never glanced back.
Needing a solitary win in their final three matches, the Tigers were in no mood to relinquish their grip on the tie with commanding wins in both the Men’s Doubles and the second Mixed Doubles.
A consolation Women’s Doubles win for the Dragons, will offer some hope that their flame may burn brighter in the second half of the season, while the Tigers will be thrilled to find themselves leading the competition as we near the halfway stage of the league.
The Crystal Ashley Match Day MVP was awarded to Edward Lau.
